Easy Steps to Publish an Android App in the Google Play Store

You've spent a considerable amount of time outlining and developing your innovative, world class mobile app (or you hired an app development company like AppCore Labs to create it). Now it's time to publish in the Google Play Store and let the world know your Android app is available.

Compared to the actual development, publishing your app in the Google Play Store is a breeze.

The following are just a few items you must have before you attempt to publish:

  • A Google Developers account

This is simply a matter of going to https://play.google.com/apps/publish/signup/ to sign up for an account. Be prepared to accept the developer agreement and pay a one-time developer fee of $25. Once you activate your account, you'll be ready to go!

  • A signed APK file

Before you can launch your app, Android requires your APK to be digitally signed with a certificate. You can sign your APK in Android Studio.

  • Your app graphics (high resolution icon, feature graphic and screenshots)

These pictures associated with your app can be game changing. Make sure you have a minimum of two screenshots (you can have up to 8). Your feature graphic should be compelling and 1024px by 500px in dimension.

With these items, you are ready to publish your app.

  1. Log in to your Google Developers account.
  2. Click Create Application.
  1. Upload the latest apk file into production to make it available in the store.
  1. Enter the product/app details, including a title, short description and full description for the store listing.
  2. Upload at least 2 screenshots of your app in different devices. Use the following graphic resolutions:
    Phone: 320 x 640
    Tablet: 1024×768 or 1280 x 800
  3. Set a high-resolution icon for the app.
  4. Add your promotional graphic that will be displayed at the top of your store listing page.
  5. Choose your Application TypeCategory and Content Rating.
  6. Add your contact information
  7. Accept the Privacy Policy
  8. Scroll to the top of the page and click Save.
  9. Click the Pricing & Distribution tab to select whether your app is paid or free.
  10. Make sure the following all have a green checkmark:

Store Listing

Content Rating

  1. Click Ready to Publish
  2. Select Publish this app.

Like magic, you've published your app in the Google Play Store. Your next step is to promote it like it crazy. Tip: Use the "Get it on Google Play" badge on your website and other promotional items.
